In a heated confrontation on Sunday, House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh reportedly assaulted Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver, who was attempting to deliver a package to the lawmaker's residence in Maitama, Abuja.

Footage filmed by the driver himself shows Ikwechegh, visibly angered, repeatedly slapping and verbally insulting Abuwatseya after the driver requested that he come outside to receive the delivery. The representative for Aba North and South Federal Constituency (APGA) claimed that asking him to step outside for the package was disrespectful and allegedly threatened to make the driver “disappear” without consequence.

In the video, Ikwechegh can be heard saying, “Do you know who I am? I can make this man vanish in Nigeria, and nothing will happen.” He further refused to pay the driver’s delivery fee, adding, “I am not giving this boy a single naira.”

The exchange escalated as Ikwechegh continued threatening the driver, insisting he could personally handle him without police involvement. When the driver attempted to collect the delivery fee, Ikwechegh allegedly slapped him multiple times and mocked his status, daring the driver to report the incident to the police.

This incident follows Ikwechegh's recent appointment after the National Assembly Election Tribunal in Umuahia dismissed Labour Party candidate Emeka Nnamani over alleged certificate forgery. Ikwechegh was subsequently awarded the certificate of return in September 2023, solidifying his seat in the federal legislature.

The assault video has sparked widespread condemnation, with APGA calling for potential disciplinary measures against the lawmaker.
