Katsina Governor Orders Immediate Closure of Private Healthcare Institutions for Re-evaluation

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has mandated the immediate shutdown of all private healthcare institutions operating within the state. This announcement was made by Umar Mammada, the Governor's Special Adviser on Health, during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Culture in Katsina on Monday.

Mammada highlighted that the state has seen a significant rise in the number of private health training institutions in recent years. However, many of these facilities have been found to be unregistered and operating below acceptable standards.

"While the role of private healthcare is vital to our overall health system, it is crucial to prioritize quality and safety for all citizens," Mammada stated.

He further explained that investigations conducted by the Ministry of Health and the state government revealed serious concerns regarding the operations of several private health training facilities. Some of these institutions, he said, do not meet the necessary legal requirements, posing potential risks to the public.

As a result, Governor Radda has ordered the immediate closure and revocation of registration and licenses for all private health training institutions in the state. This directive will remain in effect until a comprehensive review and re-registration process is completed. The goal is to ensure that all institutions adhere to the stringent health standards required for operation.

Private health training institution proprietors are expected to visit the State Ministry of Health on Thursday, 24th, and Friday, 25th, 2024, for verification and to meet with a special committee, chaired by the Special Adviser on Health Institutions, for fresh registration.

Mammada urged compliance, emphasizing that this move is essential to streamline the healthcare training sector in the state and ensure that all institutions operate within the legal framework.

During the closure period, the government will work to create a transparent and efficient process for re-validation and new registrations to ensure compliance with required standards.
