Recent research suggests that financial hardship could be a critical factor in premature ejaculation, a condition affecting 30 to 40 percent of men globally. According to leading urologists, financial stress is known to trigger anxiety and depression, creating a ripple effect on sexual health and performance. Premature ejaculation, marked by early orgasm and ejaculation during intercourse, often leaves both partners dissatisfied and can complicate relational dynamics. Urologists warn that as men experience increased financial pressure, they may overlook their mental and physical health, leading to lifestyle habits such as alcohol consumption or smoking, further exacerbating symptoms.

Dr. Olaitan Adeyemi, a urologist at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, underscores that premature ejaculation is a multifaceted issue requiring careful intervention. "Premature ejaculation has both physical and social determinants," he explained. “Financial pressures raise stress and anxiety, which negatively affect sexual performance and compound existing health issues." He adds that beyond the mental strain, economic hardship can lead to habits like excessive alcohol use or smoking—factors closely linked to the onset of premature ejaculation

According to the Mayo Clinic, premature ejaculation results from complex factors, including anxiety, early sexual experiences, and relationship issues. Additional conditions like erectile dysfunction, guilt, or stress may also increase the likelihood of premature ejaculation, explains the health institution. While financial stress is a contributing factor, biological issues like neurological disorders and hormonal imbalances can also play a role.

Dr. Taiwo Alabi, a Consultant Urologist, further elaborates on coping mechanisms. He recommends lifestyle modifications, like maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding smoking, and practicing the “stop-start” technique to delay ejaculation. "Men who control lifestyle factors have a greater chance of preventing premature ejaculation. Fruits, vegetables, and regular exercise can also be effective," he advised.

Experts urge men experiencing persistent premature ejaculation to consult healthcare providers, as early intervention can significantly improve quality of life and mental well-being.
